Route Updates & Conditions
Our 40-mile and 70-mile routes were originally designed over the winter using available trail and road data. Now that we’ve been able to get out on course and ride them in real conditions, we’ve made a few important updates.
During testing, we found several sections with deep, loose sand. Fun for fat bikes, but not ideal for a gravel race. Based on that feedback, we’ve adjusted portions of both routes to improve rideability, safety, and overall flow. The Strava routes and GPX files have been updated.

The Superior Vistas Gravel Race makes its debut on June 20, 2026, building on the long-standing tradition of the Superior Vistas Bike Tour. This new chapter brings an exciting gravel-focused experience to a weekend that has celebrated cycling in the South Shore region for years.
Starting at Long Lake just outside of Washburn, riders will choose between a 70-mile or 40-mile route, each designed to showcase the best of Bayfield County’s gravel riding. Both courses wind through the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, featuring a mix of well-maintained gravel roads, quiet backcountry routes, and rolling terrain that offers both challenge and flow.
The 70-mile route delivers a full endurance experience, with longer stretches of remote riding, sustained climbs, and rewarding descents. The 40-mile route offers a shorter but equally scenic option, making it ideal for riders looking for a more approachable distance without sacrificing the character of the course.
True to its name, Superior Vistas highlights the natural beauty of the region. Expect dense forest corridors, peaceful Northwoods roads, and sweeping landscapes that define gravel riding along Wisconsin’s South Shore.
Whether you're lining up to compete or simply looking to experience a premier gravel ride in northern Wisconsin, the Superior Vistas Gravel Race carries forward the spirit of community, exploration, and unforgettable riding.
